Thank you for visiting our new Internet site. In June 2002 a group
of maximum classification prisoners attended a HIV/AIDS prevention
program at the Brandvlei Maximum Institution. They were so inspired
with what they have learned from the program that they decided to reach
out to the immediate community
The inmates called
themselves "Group of Hope" and they decided to "adopt" HIV/AIDS orphans
and people in need from the community who will come and visit the
maximum prison Group of Hope members. During the visits the group
usually spoils the "adopted" people with snacks, vegetables and clothes
that they have made themselves in the workshop and toys that were
received as donations.
LATEST NEWS: Motivational Speaker visited the Group
| 04-09-08
we had a visit of the Motivational Speaker, Mr. Jay Solomon he visited
the Group of Hope as well as 50 more fellow inmates that also attended
the session. He spoke about change and the power of inner change:
these are some of the comments from some of the attendants that were
there... "This is what I needed all along", "What a special day!", "I
never thought I could relate so much with someone that I hardly know"
With this uplifting visit, belief in "REHABILITATION" has been
restored in most of the guys that attended this event and that One can
really change his ways and have great relationship with the Lord. This
day has been truly a success and many were motivated. | |
Birthdays and parties
02-09-08:
The group's children visited the group and boy did they enjoy
themselves? The day started with the children playing a very
educational game created by the Adoption project manager. Whenever the
children visit the group, nothing else one can feel in the air but
LOVE. Everyone gets pretty excited in days like this because a month
is a very long time when you missing the one's you love. These visits
can get very emotional at times as we grow into trusting and
strengthening our bond with the aim of maintaining a healthy
relationship with our beautiful children.
After playing it was
chow time, which was followed by the most favorite time of the day,
Party Time, celebrating the birthdays of the children born in the
August month. The gifts were handed to the children after that some
veggies were donated to Sinethemba Home and then the day was officially
over. |
Changes to our garden
| 03-09-08
we were blessed by the presence of the "wormaholic", Mr. Charl Pienaar
who introduced these wriggling chaps to us. He sponsored us with
earthworms, and soon we will be producing our own Vermicompost. This
means our soil will be conditioned by this type of compost which will
allow us to produced 100% Organic Veggies. In other words we are now
not only have garden but also do "Earthworm farming" now how
interesting is that? Be prepared to be wowed by this project as there
is more to come! |
Smiling One
For
the past 9 months the group has been blessed by the most amazing
program that is about equipping others with the tools for becoming
Responsible Individuals. The CEO of the Smiling One Company as well as
a Life Coach: Karina Anderson handed over the books that were donated
to us by her. These books will be used by the Life coaches that are
still in training in sharing this brilliant program with fellow inmates
of the Brandvlei Maximum Prison. The group was all smiles to be
presented with such a precious gift.
